ABOUT SARMA
Congratulations on your engagement! We hope that you are enjoying looking through our portfolio and that you can envision yourselves in our style of photography.
We have a passion for documenting celebrations honoring love of all kinds.
Sarma & Co. Photography is described as timeless, tried and true- creating images that are candid, honest, crisp and have energy and emotion. Wedding photos that will leave a lasting impression. We create imagery saturated with true to life color, neutral black and whites and natural skin tones. Our clients are couples who consider their wedding photography one of the most important investments they'll budget for during their planning process. Couples who treasure wedding images that are not chasing photography trends. Our images are not overly edited nor do we use trendy filters. We have no interest in processing techniques that are the latest fad and will quickly be out of date and cheesy wedding photos make us cringe. While we do certainly photograph the pretty details, we are constantly keeping our eyes on the organic moments going on around us and we believe family portraits are important too. We document your wedding day through an unobtrusive, relaxing and genuine approach letting the day unfold naturally. Known for my calm demeanor, I will put you at ease on your wedding day allowing you to be yourself making the experience of being photographed very enjoyable and stress free. Our photography is celebrated for capturing your true personalities on your wedding day reflecting your unique style. Couples are always amazed at all of the special moments that were candidly captured, never noticing us.
I studied photography at New England School of Photography in Boston before moving to NYC and studying at Parsons School of Design. Throughout my 19 year editorial and wedding photography career, my work has been published in The Knot NY, The Knot NJ, Brides, Carats and Cake, Wedding Vortex, New York Magazine, Time Out NY, Style Me Pretty, TIAA and T. Rowe Price. I enjoy giving back by donating my art and services to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude's. In 2019 I partnered with One Tree Planted and joined a mission, a movement towards a greener, cleaner, more bio diverse and sustainable future. We donated 100 trees to be planted in Australia in honor of our 2019 clients and look forward to adding more trees in continued support to help wildfire recovery and mitigate climate change. In 2020, we again partnered with One Tree Planted in collaboration with NYC Parks to physically plant trees at the Salt March Nature Center to improve the environment in nearby parks and enhance public health. In addition to this work, I volunteer at Red Hook Compost Site which is a 100% volunteer run and hand powered community compost site at Red Hook Farms on Lenape Land. I also volunteer with the horticultural staff on Governors Island in an effort to continue my support of public green spaces in NYC and my commitment to environmental and community stewardship.
On a more personal note, some other things that I love:
* My family. I've been married to my husband (who is also a photographer) for 20 years and we have two teenage boys whom we love more than anything.
* Spending time with our extended family.
* All things botanical, horticultural and environmental.
* The sound of the ocean and the smell of fresh cut grass.
* Winter hiking.
* The Moth storytelling events.
* Fall weekends upstate.
* Art installations in public spaces.
* Reading printed books.
* NPR
* Traveling.
* The morning light in my apartment.
