The Moon, the Earth and Us.
Spent the afternoon walking along the Highline (sometimes I don't mind the freezing cold) and came across this installation piece by Oliver Jeffers. I love public art installations! The Highline website explains the piece "Artist and children’s book author Oliver Jeffers’ installation The Moon, the Earth and Usis inspired by the Earthrise photo—the first photo of our planet in its entirety—taken 50 years ago during the Apollo 8 mission on December 24, 1968. When looking at the Earth from a great distance, the astronauts noticed that the man-made borders that separate and divide us disappeared, creating a single, interconnected planet. They called this phenomenon “the Overview Effect.”
Thanks NYC for always being an available canvas for free art allowing us to experience an artist's eye on the world.
